Like an Old English Sheepdog
All white and gray,
Shuffling along slowly,
Come what may.

You’re my inspiration
A hero some might say:
Overcoming pain and war
To fight another day.

Sitting in the armchair,
Memories crowd the room.
Your sad eyes shine out
In the gathering gloom.

I hide from you…
Don’t pick up the phone;
And you don’t know why,
You never felt so alone.

You see I’m scared,
I can’t even write on…
Unable to face the pain
That I’ll feel when you are gone.

I like this very muchly; there’s so much love here there’s not enough space between the lines to fit it all in.

Granpa reads very well, evoking a complete scene, even scenes, is so few words.

Uh, that was meant to be: ‘in’ so few words.
